UK Fire Training History
UK Fire Training has its roots in the north of England where and organisation called SBG Training and Developments was formed in South Yorkshire in 1982. Originally created to help develop employment and training opportunities for people affected by the decimation of the coal and steel industry in the region, SBG went on to run large government funded programmes across several counties. Integral to its role, SBG had a legal duty to promote and protect the safety of its staff and trainees and developed this function to offer health and safety training and consultancy services.
A growth opportunity was seen in the fire safety sector and this combined with the Chief Executives’ previous fire engineering background (Ian Potter spend several years as a designer and consultant with Colt International) it was decided that this sector would be developed and UK Fire Training was born in 2004.
A network of highly experienced Fire Service trainers was built up with an emphasis of previous fire enforcement activity. The trainers were all required to have a minimum of 5 years training background and a personality to suit a commercial market. The team of trainers were set up to offer services in all parts of the UK with representation in Scotland Eire, Northern Ireland and Wales.
The advent of the Regulatory (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and the Fire Safety (Scotland) Act 2005 lead to a significant growth in demand for fire safety services and this was reflected in the development of UK Fire Training. Over the years, the number of clients increased rapidly to a point where more than 20,000 individual clients were being trained on an annual basis.
The business strategy was to become the natural choice for all companies looking for on-site / in-company training. To achieve this, UK Fire Training developed a range of fire safety training courses, many of which became IFE approved which could all be tailored to each client we worked with. A successful pre-course customisation procedure lead many large and respected companies becoming loyal clients.
A policy of dealing with all client groups and all company sizes has paid off and over the last decade we have worked with over 5,000 individual customers. Many large companies including Barclays Bank, British Gas, DHL and Norbert Dentressangle and been with us for many years now and all has unique, customer specific fire training programmes that are tailored to an even higher level than normal. The mix of clients include such iconic names as Harvey Nicolls, Abbey Road Studios, Lambeth Palace and St Paul’s Cathedral.
Customers all benefit from a comprehensive service portfolio which makes compliance much simpler. Included in this list are Fire Seminars, Fire Risk Assessments, First Aid and Manual Handling Training courses. Customer satisfaction is our number one priority and to underpin this we operate a BSI audited quality management system to ISO 9001:2008.
